RTP and MAX platform premiere fiction series "Lume" about forest fires

The Portuguese-Spanish series “Lume”, a thriller that questions the origin of forest fires between northern Portugal and Galicia, will premiere on the 19th on the MAX platform and the following day on RTP, the public broadcaster revealed.

“Lume” is a fiction series written by Spanish author Irene Pin and Portuguese author Sara Rodi, co-directed by Sérgio Graciano and Giselle Llanio, and was filmed in the summer of 2024 in various locations in northern Portugal and Galicia, Spain.

“Set in a village in the Raia Seca, the story explores the scourge of forest fires that, year after year, devastate the north of Portugal and Galicia. Through the investigation of a speculative network, and with a mysterious narrative, 'Lume' questions the true causes of the fires. It does not limit itself to the surface”, says RTP in a press release.

The Iberian cast is headed by actress Cristina Castaño, in the role of a journalist, and actor Albano Jerónimo, a GNR corporal who will help her investigate a possible crime related to forest fires.

Ricardo Pereira, Lúcia Moniz, João Pedro Vaz, Isabel Naveira, Xúlio Abonjo and Afonso Agra, among others, also appear in the series, spoken in Portuguese and Galician.

“Lume” has six episodes, to be shown from June 20th on RTP1 and RTP Play and the day before it will be available on the MAX streaming platform.

The production was carried out by the Portuguese company Coral Europa and the Galician company Setemedia, also involving RTP, Televisión de Galícia and the MAX streaming platform for the Iberian territory. It received 250,000 euros from the European Council's Eurimages funding programme.

In addition to “Lume”, Portugal and Spain have collaborated in the co-production of other television series, namely “Auga Seca” (2020-2021), “Crimes Submersos” (2022) and “Operação Maré Negra” (2022-2024).
